President-elect Brendan Lee, Three New Directors to Take Office in January 2022
ROCKVILLE, MD – The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) is pleased to announce the election of Brendan Lee, MD, PhD as ASHG’s 2022 President-elect; and of Yvonne Bombard, PhD; Wendy K. Chung, MD, PhD; and Wendy R. Uhlmann, MS, CGC to the ASHG Board of Directors. Their three-year terms will begin on January 1, 2022.
Brendan Lee, MD, PhD is a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine and the Director of the Rolanette and Berdon Lawrence Bone Disease Program, Center for Skeletal Medicine and Biology, and Skeletal Dysplasia Clinic. Dr. Lee has served on several Society groups including The American Journal of Human Genetics (AJHG) Editorial Board, ASHG Program Committee, The AJHG Search Committee, HGG Advances Editor-in-Chief Search Committee, and on the ASHG Board of Directors as Secretary.
Yvonne Bombard, PhD is a genomics health services researcher and Scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael’s Hospital. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto in the Institute of Health Policy Management and Evaluation. Her areas of expertise include genomics, health services and policy research, personalized medicine, translation research, health technology assessment, and patient and public engagement. Dr. Bombard has served on various Society working groups, chaired the Society’s former Social Issues Committee, and is currently a member of the Online Programs & Professional Education Working Group.
Wendy K. Chung, MD, PhD is an ABMG board certified clinical and molecular geneticist and directs NIH funded research programs in human genetics of birth defects including congenital diaphragmatic hernia, congenital heart disease, and esophageal atresia, autism, neurodevelopmental disorders, pulmonary hypertension, cardiomyopathy, obesity, diabetes, and breast cancer. She leads the Precision Medicine Resource in the Irving Institute at Columbia University. Dr. Chung currently serves on the Government & Public Advocacy Committee and The AJHG Editorial Board.
Wendy R. Uhlmann, MS, CGC is the genetic counselor/clinic coordinator of the Medical Genetics Clinic at the University of Michigan. She is a Clinical Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Human Genetics and an executive faculty member of the genetic counseling training program. Her expertise includes genetic counseling, neurogenetics, genetic testing, direct-to-consumer/consumer-initiated genetic testing, ethical issues, return of research results. Ms. Uhlmann served on the Society’s former Social Issues Committee, currently serves on the Government & Public Advocacy Committee, and has moderated sessions during ASHG Annual Meetings.
The new Board members were nominated by ASHG members and elected by members earlier this month, and will join the remainder of the 2022 Board of Directors:
