Rockville, MD – Human geneticists from around the world will convene virtually on October 18-22 for the 2021 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) to share the latest discoveries in human genetics and genomics, as well as explore implications for human health and society. ASHG’s second virtual meeting will connect and engage the genetics and genomics community, offering a new platform and enhanced ways to explore thousands of scientific presentations, unite with friends and colleagues, and build professional connections.
With nearly 2,000 scientific presentations, 78 exhibitors, and numerous networking events, ASHG 2021 will showcase the breadth of the field and the impact that human genetics and genomics has on promoting health and preventing disease, while previewing the latest scientific innovations.
“ASHG is the largest society serving the genetics and genomics field and we are excited to again host thousands of scientific findings and connect our community,” said ASHG President Gail Jarvik, MD, PhD. “ASHG’s annual meeting is the field’s unmatched venue to discover what’s new in human genetics and genomics across all of biomedicine, and to see the essential role this community plays in advancing science and health.”
Jarvik continued, “As the world continues to grapple with an unprecedented pandemic, we see the incredible role that genetics and genomics research has played in developing rapid responses and novel treatments, and it reinforces the importance of our collective work to innovate, discover and deploy genetic knowledge to serve humankind. Yet we know the community has much to do to ensure all people benefit from human genetics and genomics research and I’m especially glad that this year’s program placed intentional and multifaceted priority on issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
Press can register for ASHG 2021 using the Press Registration Page.
This year’s sessions will cover the following themes:
- Bioinformatics; Genetic, Genomic, and Epigenomic Annotations, Databases and Resources
- Cancer; Molecular Phenotyping and Omics Technologies
- Clinical
- Complex Traits and Polygenic Disorders
- Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Human Genetics and Genomics Research
- Evolutionary and Population Genetics

About the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG)
Founded in 1948, the American Society of Human Genetics is the primary professional membership organization for human genetics specialists worldwide. Its nearly 8,000 members include researchers, academicians, clinicians, laboratory practice professionals, genetic counselors, nurses, and others with an interest in human genetics. The Society serves scientists, health professionals, and the public by providing forums to: (1) share research results through the ASHG Annual Meeting and in The American Journal of Human Genetics and Human Genetics and Genomics Advances; (2) advance genetic research by advocating for research support; (3) educate current and future genetics professionals, health care providers, advocates, policymakers, educators, students, and the public about all aspects of human genetics; and (4) promote genetic services and support responsible social and scientific policies.
